Few musical groups have held sway expressing political and revolutionary themes quite like Rage Against The Machine and Public Enemy. The legendary groups have joined forces and added Cypress Hill‘s B Real to the mix to form the supergroup, Prophets of Rage.
As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the announcement of the group took place Tuesday (May 31) after a website featured a countdown clock and hit zero. The group’s name, Prophets of Rage, is the name of a song that appears on Public Enemy’s classic second album, It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back.
The Prophets consist of Rage guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford, and drummer brad Wilk. The trio will be fronted by B Real and Chuck D with hopes that Rage’s Zack de la Rocha will join the group.
The band had their first show together last night as well in Los Angeles and rocked out a sold out house at Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip.
According to a report from Rolling Stone, the veteran rappers ran through RATM’s catalog and performed hard-rocking versions of their own classics from the Public Enemy and Cypress Hill vaults. The publication reports that Chuck D said that the group will “keep a seat warm” for de la Rocha should he decide to add his talents.
